About The Halfway House

A proper local pub with a lot of heart — and a kitchen that takes food seriously.

The pub

A village pub with deep roots

The Halfway House has stood at the heart of Blackwoodfor generations. It's the kind of place where locals know each other by name, where the fire's always going in winter, and where a quick pint somehow turns into a long evening.

After years of being a well-loved local, the pub has had a new lease of life under fresh ownership — keeping everything that made it special while raising the bar on food, drink, and the overall experience.

Landlord & Landlady

When [Name] and [Name] took over The Halfway House, they had a simple ambition: run the kind of pub they'd actually want to go to themselves. Young, ambitious, and deeply passionate about hospitality, they've brought fresh energy to every corner of the place — from the menu to the décor.

Between them they've got a background in [cooking / hospitality / local business] — and an unwavering belief that a great local pub should be at the centre of community life. They're in seven days a week and chances are one of them will be the one pulling your pint.

“We wanted to do something we're genuinely proud of. This place means a lot to the people here — we take that seriously.”

How we cook

Proper food, properly sourced

The kitchen at The Halfway House is built around one idea: use the best ingredients you can find, then get out of the way. That means working with local farmers and suppliers wherever possible, keeping the menu seasonal, and not overcomplicating things.

Our meat comes from [local butcher / farm], our vegetables are sourced from growers in [region], and we bake our own bread in-house. When something isn't in season, it isn't on the menu — simple as that.

We believe pub food should be unpretentious but never ordinary. Every dish is made from scratch, every day.

Local first

We source from farms and producers within [X] miles wherever we can. Good food starts with good relationships.

Seasonal menu

The menu changes with the seasons. We follow what's good rather than what's convenient.

Community pub

We're part of this village and we take that seriously — from hosting local events to supporting nearby charities.

Come and see for yourself

The best way to understand what we're about is to pull up a stool. We're open Wednesday through Sunday.
